Afon Wen station looking east from the west end of platform 1 in 1954. A train has just arrived, and at its head is ex-GWR locomotive No. 9014. The locomotive was built in August 1937 at Swindon works. 9014 was a rebuild of a Duke Boiler fitted into Bulldog frames. Dukedogs, as they became known, had a light axle loading and could go anywhere; many worked over the Cambrian Coast to Barmouth over the wooden Barmouth Bridge. This loco was withdrawn in October 1960 from 84J Croes Newydd and scrapped that December.
