Station Name: ASHINGTON

[Source: Alan Young]

The north end of Ashington station is seen in November 1966. Ahead the tracks divide: with a 15mph speed limit in place, the freight route to Ashington Colliery curves sharply to the left beyond the station signal box, whilst the Newbiggin route curves to the right. If plans approved in 1867 had been carried out, a further route would have continued ahead to join the East Coast main line near Warkworth.
