In 1974 Backworth station is seen from the down platform. The original stationmaster’s house and offices which stood by the road have been removed, but the former booking office – now used as waiting rooms – and the booking office in the overtrack building are still in place. BR (Eastern Region) has installed its favourite obtrusive lamp standards which now dominate the view.
