Station Name: BALDERSBY

[Source: Nick Catford]

A1 road bridge west of Baldersby station in September 2009. There was originally a level crossing here with a signal box and gate house called Leeming Lane Gates. This was replaced by a bridge in the mid 1950s when the road was widened. Although demolished the gate house is still named on the 1956 map below. This is sometimes referred to locally as York Gates but it never officially had that name, the confusion comes because there is a York Gate Farm to the south of the level crossing. This name pre-dates the railway.
