The RCTS Mid Lancs railtour at Barnoldswick station on 22 June 1962. 78036, which operated only the Earby - Barnoldswick leg of the tour, is seen running round its coaches. This loco entered service on 13 November 1954 at Preston shed. Built at BR's Darlington works to the Riddles Standard Class 2 design, it had a working life of only 12 years, when it was withdrawn from Shrewsbury shed in December 1966 to be scrapped by Cashmores of Newport in August 1967. It was a development of the Ivatt class 2 design for the LMS that incorporated many of the original design features such as rocking grates, hopper ashpans and enclosed cabs to make a locoman's life a little easier. There are 4 of these
locos preserved, 78018, 19, 22 and 59.
