This enlarged section shows the oil lamp in close-up as well as the GER running-in board. Note the bulbous glass chimney of the oil lamp; one of these in the process of being cleaned can be seen on the Ashdon Halt page. The station name is on the front pane of the lamp casement, this being the usual arrangement with oil and gas lamps of this style. The running-in board is wooden with individual letters mounted on it. Often letters were also wooden but sometimes they were metal. The letters seen above appear to be quite thin, suggesting they were metal.
