Class 456 EMU No. 456024 leaves Beddington Lane station bound for West Croydon on 31 May 1997. After closure of the Wimbledon - West Croydon line its allocation of class 456 units was transferred to Victoria - Epsom via Sutton and West Croydon, especially at peak times, as well as services from Epsom Downs and Dorking.

A quiet moment at Beddington Lane station on the last day of public service. As the Elmers End to Addiscombe service was being withdrawn on the same day the number of enthusiasts visiting the Wimbledon - West Croydon branch was less than would normally have been expected on the last day of a rail service.
