Station Name: YORKGATE

Yorkgate station was opened on 17 October 1992 as a replacement for Belfast York Road station. The station was built by Northern Ireland Railways (NIR) on a new alignment that was to form part of the cross-harbour line. The cross harbour line had been concieved in the early 1970s as a means of connecting the former LMS NCC line to the former GNRI line via a bridge that spanned the river Lagan.

Yorkgate opened two years before the cross-harbour line was ready and during that period it was a terminus station for the Larne line. On 28 November 1994 the cross-harbour line opened and Yorkgate became a through station.

The station is elevated above street level and has two platforms that are linked by a footbridge.

In 2014 Yorkgate had trains to destinations including Belfast Great Victoria Street, Larne and Derry/Londonderry.
