Station Name: BENTON (2nd)

The waiting shed at Benton on the up platform in April 1973. This delightful brick structure, retained for Metro use, is enclosed by timber and glass – a common NER feature – and its two columns carry the BR(NE) ‘oriental blue’ pain, although much faded. The tall hipped roof is slated, and most of the ridge crest tiles remain in place. The intricate finials at either end of the ridge lend both charm and light-heartedness to the building.
