A view towards Birmingham in October 1970 the, now, unstaffed station has had the canopy removed from the main station building with some building work seemingly occurring on the Birmingham platform. Note the station sign has had Central removed from the title.

Looking in the Birmingham direction along Railway Drive in October 1970 sad to think this grand building would be demolished within a couple of years.

Looking towards Wolverhampton in October 1970 from the east end of the down platform. Although the service had been much reduced and the staff removed the station projects a better image than many others did along this stretch of line.

The running-in-board on the Wolverhampton bound platform in October 1970. When the station was renamed by the LMR on 14 June 1965 the WR signage was retained, as an economy measure, with the Central suffix just over painted.

A GWR comapny notice could still be seen attached to the main building in October 1970.

Looking in the Wolverhampton direction along the Birmingham bound platform in October 1978. Both lines were still in use, at this point, with regular freight workings to Swan Village Basin, Wednesbury Steel Terminal and several other businesses north of here.

A view along the down main line, towards Wolverhampton, in October 1978 the vast space between the running lines gives away that this was once a broad gauge line.
The goods shed can just be glimpsed to the left.
