Bishop Auckland Station in August 1977. The view is looking towards Durham from the 'new' footbridge and shows the rarely used Platform 4. (It was used for parcels, pigeons and papers) To the right are the through platforms. The far one which was in use for DMU's still had a buffer stop. The nearer line was used at least up to early 1977 for occasional Class 31 hauled oil trains. These went up to the former horse/cattle dock near the Tenters Street bridge where West Cumberland Farmers used to have a domestic oil terminal. This was converted to road transport before the line was lifted
