Bollington Station Gallery 1: 1909 - Mid-1960s

The waiting shelter on the down platform at Bollington station in 1909. Joe Barlow, pictured centre, with buttonhole, and to his right his cousin Bill Biddulph, are at the start of their journey from Bollington to Winnipeg in Canada. They were part of an exodus from Edwardian Bollington to Canada and Australia. They left behind poor wages and prospects in the cotton mills of Bollington.
