Boldon Colliery signal box and station looking east on 20 September 1970. The line through the station is to Sunderland. The tracks bearing left are the freight line to Green Lane Junction, Tyne Dock and South Shields, but for a few years in the 1830s-40s the route was used by passenger trains when Brockley Whins – as it was known then - was the meeting point of services to and from Gateshead, South Shields and Wearmouth (Sunderland).
