Looking east from the down (Newcastle-bound) platform of Boldon Colliery station in the mid 1970s. The station building formerly stood in the foreground to the right, but it was demolished shortly after the station ceased to be staffed. The footbridge at the end of this platform connects to the other for trains to Sunderland. The lines curving away to the left lead to Green Lane Junction, Tyne Dock and South Shields; the route was briefly used by passenger trains in the 1830s-40s, but they have carried only goods and mineral traffic for over a century.
