Bury Knowsley Street station looking east along the down platform in 1925. The nearer section of the up platform is sheltered by a ridge-and-furrow canopy, and at this time the fronts of the gables are enclosed and a deep valance is in place. The other canopies are of a longitudinal pitch design and were a later addition to both platforms.

An official LMS photograph from 6 February 1934 showing horses being loaded at the up platform bay of Bury Knowsley Street. The loading of the horses was part of a household move to Torquay. The photo demonstrates the variety of traffic that would have been handled at the station in those days. The large, brick-built cotton warehouse with its prominent brick pilasters, constructed in 1912,
forms the backdrop.

Bury Knowsley Street seen from the air in 1935. A passenger train is seen standing at the down platform. The line curving off towards the top left of the view was the 'Bury Loop'. It provided a connection for goods services between the Bolton-Castleton line and the Manchester-Bury line.
