A Rochdale service formed of a Class 108 DMU waits to depart from the up platform at Bury Knowsley Street on Saturday 3 October 1970. This is the last day of passenger services at Knowsley Street. The building clearly bears the imprint of the recently-removed ridge-and-furrow canopy. The BR(LMR) running-in nameboard will be noted.

Looking east at Bury Knowsley Street station on 3 October 1970. A solitary passenger with a pram is walking away from a Rochdale to Wigan Wallgate service which has just arrived. By this time the supporting columns of the up platform canopy have been removed.

Bury Knowsley Street station looking east on 3 October 1970, the last day of passenger services. The station is a shadow of its former self, shorn of its canopies, apparently bereft of lighting and served only by local trains.

Looking west along the up platform at Bury Knowsley Street in February 1971. Passenger services have ceased four months ago but little has changed since then. An English Electric Type 4 locomotive (Class 40) is seen standing at the western end of the up platform. The original track layout remains in situ at this time but the through lines have clearly not been used for quite some time as they appear very rusty in this view.
