A demolition train stands at the site of Churchtown station's up (Southport direction) platform in March 1965. The platform had been demolished but its timbers can be seen adjacent to the track in this view looking north-east. 42078 was designed by Fairburn, a development of Stanier passenger tank. It entered service on 21.12.1950 at 74C, Dover Shed and after spells at 6C Birkenhead Mollington St, 6H Bangor, 8C Speke Junction, and 8M Southport, it was allocated to 8K, Bank Hall on 11.6.1966 from where it was withdrawn on 18.6.1966 before being sent to Cashmores of Great Bridge where it was cut up in September of that year.
