Station Name: CONSETT

The last train into Consett was organised by the Derwent Rail Action Group running on 17th March 1984 from Newcastle. With the station behind the camera we are in standing on the crossover that was in front of Carr House Signal Box which stood on the flat area to the left of the picture. In front the line rises to cross the railway that ran to Latterday Saint pit and linked other pits in the area that brought coke to the drops of the steelworks. To the right lines once descended to cross Knitsley Lane and meet up with the lines from the pits to allow coke from other sources to be taken directly to the ovens. Just right of centre in the middle distance the bridge can be seen that crossed Knitsley Lane that took the line built between the wars connecting the local pits to the Fell Coke Works allowing processed coke to be brought back to the drops.
