Having climbed the stairs into the box the signalman’s view could be obtained in the direction of Hownes Gill. The former twin curving tracks heading to the right down to the lower yard and the Hownes Gill branch going straight off towards Rowley, Waskerley, Crook, Rookhope and Stanhope. Now none of these rail routes exist but some can be walked. March 1984.
