In this picture we are looking down the line towards Lanchester and eventually Relly Mill Junction on the east coast main line. The small bridge in the middle distance carried a small lane over the line before the branch passed far beneath the Hownes Gill branch which can be seen on the high embankment in the background. The curious double signal must have controlled movement in both directions off the yard headshunt on the embankment to the left. This signal was also saved and its components are now in use on the South Tynedale Railway.
