Station Name: DIGGLE

The Standedge Tunnels’ portals at Diggle are seen in October 2015, looking north-west. The closest tunnel mouth is that of the Nelson Tunnel (1871) and immediately beyond is the Nicholson Tunnel (1849). The tank used to supply water for the troughs in the tunnels, but now it is colonised by trees, while graffiti artists of restricted talent have left their mark on the red-brick base. In the background a DMU is emerging from Standedge North Tunnel.
