Damaged to Admiralty Pier following the storm on 18 January 1881. "It was Dover’s biggest storm for forty four years. Around the Town houses lost their roofs, cellars were flooded and in the harbour vessels were completely submerged. Even the Admiralty pier didn’t escape. Huge 1.5 ton blocks were ripped up from their seatings and iron gates ripped from their hinges. The mail train was disrupted due to the rails being torn up and lamp posts were snapped off. Iron railings were ripped away and telegraph wires destroyed.
