The south-east frontage of Durham station looking south-west in July 2013. The photographer is standing on the site of the refreshments rooms/station hotel. Under the tarmac, and still standing, are the hotel cellars. Between the grit bin and the station building there used to be a covered barrow ramp which was later (1966) replaced with a flat roofed booking hall.
