By June 2011 the station building is in poor condition, internally gutted and beyond economic repair. It would be demolished two months later prior to the refurbishment of the station.

Fishguard and Goodwick station in August 2011 shortly after the original station building was demolished.

Before Fishguard & Goodwick station could be reopened it was necessary to realign the track through the platform. Following the end of the Motorail service in 1980 the line was singled and realigned away from the platform. The track now had to be to re-laid adjacent to the platform. In order to achieve this it was necessary for several hundred metres of track either side of the station to be re-laid as well.

This building was retained as part of the new station. It is not an original building being constructed sometime after 1937. It is not known what the building was used for.
