73 211, one of the dedicated passenger sector class 73s, is seen slowing down to take the junction at Folkestone East into Folkestone East Train Roads and passing the disused up platform at Folkestone East station in November 1989. The train is 1Y46 (ThO) 11.15 London Victoria to Folkestone Harbour and the first leg of the VSOE (Venice Simplon Orient Express) luxury heritage train service across Europe. Having crossed the Channel, passengers resume their journey in vintage Wagon-Lits Pullman cars to Venezia Santa Lucia in Itlay. The all-Pullman car train seen here will reverse in the Train Roads at Folkestone East then descend the incline to Folkestone Harbour where passengers will transfer to the waiting 14.30 sailing to Bolougne-sur-Mer in France.
