The Admiralty Pier Gun Turret and other military
installations on the Admiralty Pier - Dover

April 1906. Cutting away the north-west corner of the turret.

October 1906. Re-facing the turret with concrete blocks.

August 1907. The temporary lighthouse was very short lived and has now been removed;
it is not known why.

October 1906. The temporary stage around the east side of the turret has been removed.

March 1908. The turret widening is nearing completion.

SE&CR locomotive No. 504 is seen alongside the turret c1910. In the background is the Pier Turret Battery command post which was built on top of the old lighthouse replacing the lantern room.

Pier Extension: 1903 - 1908

January 1903. During the construction of the pier extension and winding of the turret cross channel ferries continued to operate from the landing stages at the north end of the pier.

April 1905.

May 1906. Metal screen around the search lights that were mounted on the pier extension. The beam from the light is concentrated on a narrow slit and then diverges out beyond. This narrow slit offers a small target for shots while at the same time all the light passes through the slit.

October 1906.

July 1908. The engine rooms beneath the two searchlights. Generators were installed here.

Pier Head & Pier Head Battery: 1903 - 1908

December 1904.

October 1906 - Parapet steps.

August 1907.

August 1907. The Signal Station.

October 1907. The pier head is nearing completion. The two 12 pounder QF gun emplacements are seen, one immediately to the right of the wooden tower and one just to the left of the slope. Ammunition lockers are set into the wall between them.
