RAILWAYS AT BIDSTON

Bidston Shed looking east in 1936 when it was under the ownership of the London & North Eastern Railway. The shed opened in 1897 and is seen here with its original roof which was later replaced by BR. The loco on the right Built in 1900 at the GCR's Gorton works to a Thomas Parker design, this loco was given the GCR number 915. It was taken into LNER stock and renumbered in 1924 to 5915 and classed N5/1 until 1932 when it was rebuilt and reclassified N5/2. Renumbered by the LNER in 1946 to 9339 until nationalisation when it was renumbered again, 69339. It was withdrawn in March, 1956 from 6F, Bidston shed after over 55 years service and cut up shortly afterwards.
