SIGNAL BOXES ON THE GC & MR JOINT RAILWAY WIDNES BRANCH

[Source: John Wilson & Paul Wright]

Widnes East signal box seen shortly after it had suffered a fire on 5 April 1987. This BR LM15 type box had replaced a CLC box dating from 1891 on 8 April 1956. It was located further west than its predecessor in the fork of Widnes East Junction. The GC & MR Joint Railway had passed to the left of the box.
