Looking south-east along the track-bed of the original 1873 CLC Glazebrook east Junction - Skelton Junction line on 17 June 2012. After the closure opening of the diversion line in 1893 this line had linked to the Manchester Ship Canal Partington Coal basin, on the north bank of the canal. It was also adapted to provide access to the Irlam Steelworks and other industries. The line outlived the deviation remaining in use until September 1999 to serve an oil depot.
