Looking north from Shotton station towards the point where the WM&CQR Hawarden Loop line made an end-on connection with the MS&LR Chester Northgate line as seen in March 2011. The systems made an end-on connection at about the point marked by a grey metal box in the middle distance on the right side of the line. There had also been a junction at this point where a WM&CQR branch went off to the left and ran down to Connahs Quay.
