A southbound passenger train at Galashiels station in the 1960s. 61308 is a B1, this one built by North British Loco for the then fledgling BR. Entering service at 61A, Kittybrewster shed on 9.4.1948, it lasted until 19.11.1966, when it was withdrawn from 62A, Thornton Junction shed, to be scrapped in December that year by Motherwell Machinery and Scrap. Looking carefully at this picture, it can be seen that the loco is carrying a 64A shed plate, (St Margarets), and the SC attached underneath denotes a Self Cleaning Smokebox. The single lamp above the Smokebox is a class B, stopping passenger headcode
