Galashiels station looking north in May 1950 with a southbound main line train on the left and a train from Peebles on the right. 62715, on the left was built in March at Darlington in 1928. A Gresley- designed, D49, Shire/Hunt class 4-4-0 named 'Roxburghshire', it lasted until withdrawn from 64A, St Margarets to be scrapped at Darlington in July 1959. Built at Darlington in 1959, 61358, on the right, was named 'Earl Kitchener of Khatoum'. This Thompson designed B1 survived less than 15 years, being withdrawn on 25.12.63 from 62A, Thornton Junction and cut up at BR's Cowlairs
works in February 1964.
