The down platform at Gateacre station in circa 1969. The chimneys of the station building can be seen far left. Connecting it to the down platform is a covered walkway and at the end of that a canopy. At this time the longest trains that called at the station would have been four-car DMUs during the rush hour periods. For most of the day two-car DMUs were used. The short section of brick platform face marks the spot where the subway passes under the line.
