Looking north-east from the former up platform of Gateshead West station in June 2011. A notice attached to the gantry in the foreground discourages passengers from alighting at the platform which has been out of use for 46 years. The former up platform can be seen to the left. In the background the single track joins the Sunderland – Newcastle route just before the High Level Bridge.
