Gateshead West station looking south-west in June 2011 along the former up platform. The single track is electrified as it provides a diversionary route for the East Coast main line. The regenerated Greenesfield site is seen to the right; this formerly accommodated the Greenesfield passenger terminus (closed 1850) and subsequently the railway engineering workshop.
