Station Name: GATESHEAD WEST

Gateshead West station looking north from the southern end of the down platform in September 1975. The condition of the two platforms belies the fact that the station has been closed for almost ten years. The sturdy soot-blackened buildings behind the down platform were part of the railway workshop complex; the station buildings formerly stood much further along the platform. An LNER electric lamp post remains in place on the up platform.
