In 1954 a push-and-pull service enters the single platform on the Avenue Branch at Hartley, bound for Monkseaton. At this time there were eight weekday return workings between Blyth and Monkseaton, ten on Saturdays, and none on Sundays. In September 1958 these trains gave way to diesel multiple units.
