A push-and-pull Blyth to Monkseaton train is entering the Avenue Branch platform at Hartley, possibly in the mid 1950s; the ‘off’ branch signal indicates the train’s direction of travel. The signal box, almost obscured by the train, would soon be replaced with another in the apex between the Avenue and up Seghill platforms.
