The south end of a snow-covered Hawick station in December 1961, with A3 Pacific No. 60096 'Papyrus' about to restart the 10.5am Edinburgh Waverley - London St Pancras. Built in Feb 1929 and originally numbered 96 by the LNER, this Gresley A3 was renumbered 2750 by the LNER in the 1940s. It received the number 60096 from BR at nationalisation. Withdrawn from 64A, St Margarets shed on 9.9.63, it was cut up at Arnott Young, Carmyle in June 1964. 60096 once held the world
speed record for steam at 108mph.
