42836 is seen working a southbound freight from Millerhill on a cold Boxing Day morning in 1962. Built to a Hughes' design in 1930 at Horwich works, it lasted until 29.12.62 (3 days after this picture was taken), when it as withdrawn from 12C, Penrith shed and cut up in November 1963, at McWilliams, Shettleston. First known as Horwich Moguls, they became affectionately known as Crabs because of the raised running plate over the cylinders.
