old81.jpg) The last scheduled train over the Waverley route, the 2155 sleeper service from Edinburgh Waverley to London St Pancras, rolls into Hawick late in the evening on a cold 5 January 1969 behind BR Sulzer Type 4 no 60 'Lytham St Annes'. The train was greeted by a large turnout of local people, waiting on the platform to say their last farewells.
