Station Name: HERIOT

The disused station building at Heriot, looking south in October 2015. There was formerly a level crossing at this point but this road has now been closed and a new one, crossing over the railway by a bridge, is about 300yd south-east. However, provision has been made for pedestrians and cyclists to cross the railway here, between the hamlet of Heriot Station and the A7, without having to make the detour via the road bridge. In the foreground is the ramp down to the pedestrians’ and cyclists’ subway. No concession is made to the picturesque rural surroundings, with undisguised concrete, and the 1.8 metre industrial metal mesh fencing which accompanies much of the Borders Railway
is also in evidence.
