A Southport to Preston service is seen departing from Hesketh Park station in 1954. To the far right of the picture can be seen the goods yard. To the far left can be seen the footpath which connected the Up platform to Henley Road footbridge. One of the concrete lamps seen in this picture was extant in 2011. Built by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway to an Aspinal Design, this loco carried the number 1263 when it entered service in March, 1895. It passed to the LMS at the Big Four Grouping and as renumbered 10712 in 1924 then to BR in 1948 as 50712. This 2-4-2, was built at Horwich works and had a working life of nearly 64 years when it was withdrawn from 27A, Bank Hall Shed in March 1959, then scrapped by Central Wagon Co, Wigan in June 1960.
