Notes: Hey's Crossing Halt was one of three halts opened between
1906 - 1911 by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway on their
Ormskirk to Rainford Junction line to serve a Railmotor service;
Hey's Crossing was the last to be opened in 1911. (Ormskirk
paper for 28th September 1911 lists the station as 'now open').
The service operated 19 return trips between Ormskirk and Rainford
Junction . By the 1930s the successor company the LMS had replaced
the railmotor with a push and pull locomotive and coaches.
By the middle of the 20th century traffic passenger numbers
had dropped and all of the halts including Hey's Crossing closed
in 1951. A passenger service still operated between Rainford
Junction and Ormskirk calling at the only intermediate station
with full facilities on the line at Skelmersdale. However even
this service was axed on 5.11.1956. The line lingered on for
goods services until 1964. It is hard to see why there was ever
a station here as it would have only served 2-3 farms, plus
a few houses about ½ mile away.
