Station Name: HYTHE

[Source: Nick Catford]

Hythe on 23 April 1978 with one of the British Young Travellers Society 'Fawley Flyer' shuttles passing through. These shuttle trains are adequately described on the Fawley and Marchwood pages so need no elaboration here. By this date the platform had been cut back away from the track and its remains were becoming overgrown. The electric lights still adorn the station building but are now hanging-on precariously. The dock was to the right and the rear of its platform is partly visible in front of the gate. Watching the two 'Hampshire' DEMUs thump past are a group of what are obviously railway enthusiasts and seemingly complete with the accoutrements of the hobby. One minor point to note is the chimney pot on the station building. In this view it appears to be leaning the opposite way when compared to the 1970 views but it is likely an illusion cause by the camera angle used in this view.
