63727 waiting to depart from Langholm station in 1960s. Built in May 1927 at Darlington works, this
0-6-0, Gresley designed J39 was one of a class of 155 built for the LNER. Lasting for over 35 years in service, it was withdrawn on 15.10.62 from 2F, Woodford Halse and cut up at Darlington in September 1963. None are preserved. The J39s were the most numerous of the Gresley designs, the only difference in the J39/1 and /2 was the tender, 1s having a 3,500 gallon tender and the 2s having the 4,200 gallon type. There were 3s, these having various types of tenders from the NE and GC railways.
