Station Name: LANGHOLM

The 10.48 Saturday morning Class B stopping passenger train to Carlisle pulls away from the platform at Langholm on 14 September 1963 with Ivatt 2-6-0 no 43045 in charge. Built by BR in October 1949 and entering service at 24J, Lancaster Green Ayre, this loco was built with a double chimney, but converted to a single chimney as were the rest of the so-built class. Nicknamed Flying Pigs or Doodle Bugs, some of these locos lasted until the end of steam in 1968, 43045 being withdrawn from 12D, Workington on 3.9.67 and cut up by Motherwell Machinery and Scrap, Wishaw in January 1964. 43106 was the last of the class to be withdrawn and is preserved at the Severn Valley Railway.
