Station Name: LIVERPOOL CENTRAL HIGH LEVEL

The CLC built Liverpool Central signalbox that had opened on 23 June 1889 replacing an earlier box. By April 1969 the box was in a very run down condition. So bad had it become that one signalman in the late 1960s discovered a dead rat in an armchair inside the box. The signalbox was adjacent to platform 1 which was out of use in 1969.
