Looking towards the buffer stops at Liverpool Exchange station's platform 5 in March 1968. Standing at the end of the platform is locomotive number 45149 from Preston’s Lostock Hall shed. Lostock Hall based engines worked passenger services into Liverpool Exchange right up to the very end of steam on British Railways.
