Station Name: LIVERPOOL EXCHANGE

The Southport Express prepares to depart from Liverpool Exchange station in June 1976. This was during the period when the station had been reduced to only four platforms. Southport Express services were usually made up from a three-car class 502 Unit coupled to a driving car and trailer from a 502 set. The class 502 sets were an LMS design introduced from 1939. The Southport Express ceased to operate after Liverpool Exchange closed. It offered a much faster journey time to Southport than the all station's services that ran more frequently.
